• Church Expands Ministry with New Position

Aurora, Ill., Aug. 2, 2006 (The Religion Wire™) — Bethany Dudley has been named the director of community ministry at Aurora’s First Presbyterian Church(FPC). On June 1, she assumed her duties in this newly created outreach position at the 850-member church.

Dudley’s duties are to present FPC to the local neighborhood and to the Aurora downtown community, and to orchestrate the church’s various ministries within the neighborhood and the greater Aurora area. She will be working with FPC’s recreation ministry, ESL, neighborhood ministries, and planned special events. Also, she will be networking with other local churches and non-profits in spreading the gospel of Christ.

In 2004, Dudley received her Master of Divinity degree in urban ministry from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary – C.U.M.E., Boston. She obtained her Bachelors of Art degree in urban youth ministry from North Park University, Chicago, in 2001. A native of Aurora, she is a graduate of Aurora Christian School.

She has worked, in the Boston public school system as an administrator and disciplinarian; as a youth pastor in Cambridge, Mass.; as the director for Outreach Ministries, Chicago; and in various positions with the urban youth ministry of Wayside Cross Ministries, Aurora. She has experience as, a mission worker with orphans in Bolivia; a chaplain at Rush-Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago; a worker with a weekend health program in Chicago; a World Relief volunteer; and a helper at a women’s homeless shelter.

First Presbyterian Church, one of Aurora’s oldest churches, was founded in 1858.
