Batavia, Ill., Dec. 4, 2009 (The Religion Wire™) — Covenant of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Batavia invites the community to experience a memorable Christmas season this year. Twenty-two (22) local children and teens will perform the musical drama, “It All Happened in the Country” on Saturday, December 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Batavia Park District, 327 West Wilson Street, Batavia, 60510. The general public is invited, and admission is free.
“The cast has approached this production with serious attitudes; they are very talented young people and take direction extremely well,” said Randy Tomassi of Batavia, one of the church’s Ruling Elders and the show’s Director. “This musical presents the biblical Christmas story in a creative manner that is sure to appeal to people of all ages.”
The “story within a story” focuses on two “city kids” (played by Ryan Moyer of Geneva, and Zoe Tomassi of Batavia) who become stranded in the country with their parents on Christmas Eve when the family’s vehicle breaks down. Two “country cousins” played by Joshua Megchelsen and Rebecca Megchelsen, both of North Aurora, befriend the city kids and are surprised that they’ve never heard the biblical account of Christmas. So Uncle Yule (Edward Shilka of Batavia) and Granny (Jessica Megchelsen of North Aurora) explain the true meaning of Christmas.
The cast also includes: Stephen Moyer, Nathan Moyer, and Kevin Moyer of Geneva; Katherine Czerwinski of Sugar Grove; Jesse Johnson and Gabrielle Johnson of Oswego; Alicia Megchelsen and Walter Baybutt of North Aurora; Sarah Tews, Rebecca Tews, and Hannah Tews of Aurora; Caleb Roper, Britta Roper, and Nuala Roper of Batavia; Grace Warner of St. Charles; and Corinne Myket of Naperville.
“The cast has done a great job learning their lines and choreography moves,” said Tomassi. “Our audience will be families and friends, so it gives our church the opportunity to spread the good news of Jesus Christ through this show.”
Covenant of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church meets for worship on Sundays at 9:30 AM in the Batavia Park District Building at 327 W. Wilson St. in Batavia (near the corner of Wilson St. and Rt. 31). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the church office at (630) 906-9661. The web address is: www.covofgrace.org.
