• “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” Raises Funds for Aurora’s Wayside Cross Ministries

Aurora, Ill., Jan. 18, 2010 (The Religion Wire™) — Wayside Cross Ministries(WCM) is planning its fourth annual winter walk, Walk a Mile in My Shoes,” Feb. 13, 2010, to help at-risk youth and the ministry’s transitional living center for homeless women and children. This pre-Valentine’s Day walk which benefits Urban Youth Ministry and Lifespring Center of Wayside Cross Ministries will feature an appearance by Kane County Cougar mascot Ozzie.

The unique one-mile winter walk begins and ends at the Fred Rogers Community Center, 501 College Ave. The starting time for Feb. 13 walk is 8:30 a.m. registration, and 9:00 a.m. step-off. A route map and other information about the walk is available at www.walk-a-mile-aurora.org.

Individuals and walking groups are encouraged to register at the website. Individual walkers should call (630) 723-3408 or (630) 851-0187(ask for Lynda) for more information. Group leaders should call Darcy at (630) 584-6952 for ready-to-go walker envelopes and other materials and new walk details.

The walk’s goal is to raise $100 plus per walker and $20,000 with several hundred walkers.

Lynda Dorsch, director of Lifespring Ministry, notes, “We at Lifespring are looking forward to another Walk a Mile in My Shoes this February! The Walk not only provides financial help for our every day operating expenses, it is terrific exposure to others of how Lifespring and Urban Youth are helping families right in their community. This event is drawing church groups, schools and businesses together for a common cause, all this and having fun while you walk – how do you top that?”
