• A Historic Day to Honor America’s Children

Batavia, Ill., June 10, 2010 (The Religion Wire™) — A day that reaches into the history of America is coming soon. This Sunday, June 13, is “Children’s Day” (second Sunday in June). Children’s Day observations in the United States date from the 1860s and earlier.

Children’s Day - Second Sunday in June

It is a day filled with joy and commitment to America’s children. Churches celebrate, sermons are preached, youth receive awards, parents renew commitments to their children, proclamations are read, kids participate in fun-filled activities, and most of all it is a day of sharing love with our nation’s youth.

Children’s Day is soon upon us. This historic day is being revived across our country,” expresses John Ross, an advocate for Children’s Day (second Sunday in June) and founder of the website, www.nationalchildrensday.us, and its mirror www.childrensday.us. “This movement is spreading from coast to coast, for which we are so thankful. The celebration of Children’s Day is a national movement. So happy Children’s Day, America.”

Currently, Chase’s Calendar of Events cites June 13 as Children’s Sunday.

Numerous churches and denominations, including the African Methodist Episcopal Church, African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church and the Church of the Nazarene, now observe the second Sunday in June as Children’s Day.
