Grand Rapids, Mich., Feb. 2, 2006 (The Religion Wire™ ) — From movies like The Sixth Sense to The Exorcism of Emily Rose to television shows like Revelations and Charmed to books like Harry Potter, the spirit world and all it encompasses are trendy topics in Hollywood and the literary world. But, are these portrayals accurate?“I would be the first to tell you that the way the invisible world is represented in these various forms of entertainment is, in fact, pure fantasy,” writes Chip Ingram, in his new release, The Invisible War (Baker Books, January 2006). “But I would also be the first to tell you that the reality from which these fantasies arise is rock-solid biblical truth.”
Hollywood, though, is not the only one confused about the reality of the spirit world. Many Christians don’t fully grasp the extent of the invisible battle being waged, chalking things up to coincidence or mishaps, or perhaps even thinking they might be “losing it.” Others have gone to the opposite extreme—basing their views on questionable experiences, rather than biblical truth.
