• Ride begins in Carpentersville at Main Street Bicycles

Elgin, Ill., July 11, 2006 (The Religion Wire™) — The Wayside Center of Elgin will benefit from its first-ever Wayside Ride 2006 on Saturday, July 22. The entry fee is $20/person for this new bike-a-thon event. The ride is sponsored by Main Street Bicycles, 52 W. Main St., Carpentersville, (847) 783-0362. Check-in from 8-10 a.m. for the 5 and 17 mile north course. And check-in at 9 a.m. for a 35 mile south course.

Wayside Center, 441 E. Dundee Ave., Elgin, (847) 695-4405, (open 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Saturday), offers emergency services of food, clothing, counseling and referrals to other social agencies. Breakfast and lunch meals are also served. Bible studies are held in the morning and afternoon. Shower and laundry privileges, plus a secure locker for personal belongings, are provided at the center.

The center’s trained counselors tailor an achievement program for each client’s specific needs. Each client is encouraged to participate in center’s achievement program and its work ethics training. This will enable them to participate in the center’s job liaison program. Spiritual guidance and encouragement are given each client. Clients are also referred to their residential recovery programs in Aurora.

Wayside Center Food Pantry distributes groceries on Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m.
